MELBOURNE - Feb 24/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure ridge to the south of Victoria will rapidly erode on Tuesday morning as a cold front approaches from Bight waters. A weak low pressure trough over western Victoria will move eastwards during Tuesday crossing central district in the afternoon then moving into the east of the State in the evening. The cold front will then follow along the coast early on Wednesday and a second cold front will push across Tasmania later on Wednesday. The trough will linger over northeast Victoria on Wednesday and Thursday as the next high pressure system moves from south of the Bight towards Tasmania. The low pressure trough will deepen over northern Victoria on Friday as a high pressure ridge stretches across Tasmania. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayEarly fog patches and areas of smoke haze in Gippsland, otherwise fine and mostly sunny during the morning. Isolated showers or thunderstorms over central and eastern districts during the afternoon and evening. Warm to hot with moderate to fresh north to northwest winds ahead of a milder southwesterly change extending from the western border in the morning to cross central districts and the northwest later in the day, reaching the east at night.Fire Danger - Very high.Wednesday 26 FebruaryPartly cloudy with isolated showers possible over most districts and the chance of thunderstorms over the north and east. Generally mild with light to moderate southerly winds, freshening about the coast during the afternoon.Thursday 27 FebruaryLocal morning drizzle in the south. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms over the northeast but fine elsewhere. Generally mild with moderate to locally fresh south to southeasterly winds.Friday 28 FebruaryIsolated showers in the northeast and along the northern border.
