Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 24/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system south of Adelaide extends a ridge eastwards across southern Victoria to another high over the Tasman Sea. A cold front and associated trough are moving over waters south of the Bight and will cross Victoria on Tuesday, but are expected to stall over northeast Victoria on Tuesday night. The trough will linger over northeast Victoria on Wednesday and Thursday as the next high pressure system moves from south of the Bight towards Tasmania. The low pressure trough will deepen over northern Victoria on Friday as a high pressure ridge stretches across Tasmania.
Forecast for the rest of MondayAreas of smoke haze over Gippsland. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms over the far eastern ranges, clearing in the evening. Light winds inland and weakening seabreezes near the coast.Tuesday 25 FebruaryEarly fog patches and areas of smoke haze in Gippsland, otherwise fine during the morning. Isolated showers or thunderstorms over central and eastern districts during the afternoon and evening and also over the northwest. Warm with moderate to fresh north to northwest winds ahead of a milder southwesterly change extending from the western border.Fire Danger -  Very high.Wednesday 26 FebruaryPartly cloudy with isolated showers possible over most districts and the chance of thunderstorms over the north and east. Generally mild with light to moderate southerly winds, freshening about the coast during the afternoon.Thursday 27 FebruaryLocal morning drizzle in the south. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms over the northeast but fine elsewhere. Generally mild with moderate to locally fresh south to southeasterly winds.Friday 28 FebruaryIsolated showers in the northeast and along the northern border.
