MELBOURNE - Feb 20/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A deep low pressure system south of Tasmania is directing a cold vigorous west to southwesterly airstream over Bass Strait. On Friday the low will steadily move southeastwards across the southern Tasman Sea and by Saturday a new high pressure system will be moving over Bight waters. The high is expected to extend a ridge to southern Victoria on Sunday, however a cold front is expected to move from the Southern Ocean undercutting the high to reach Tasmania on Sunday night. On Monday a narrow high pressure ridge will persist over southern Victoria. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayScattered showers across southern and mountain districts becoming isolated during the evening. Dry over the northern plains. Cool with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, strong near the coast.Friday 21 FebruaryIsolated showers in the south. Fine over the north. Cool to mild with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.Fire Danger - Moderate to high.Saturday 22 FebruaryFine after isolated morning showers near the coast. Sunny in the north but some cloud lingering in the south. Mild with a moderate south to southwesterly wind.Sunday 23 FebruaryFine and mild to warm. A mostly sunny day with light winds and afternoon coastal sea breezes.Monday 24 FebruaryFine apart from local morning drizzle about the exposed coast. Warm and sunny inland but milder near the coast.
