Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 19/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A broad upper level trough is crossing Victoria and resulting in the deepening of a low pressure system over Tasmania. The low will deepen further and move just south of Tasmania on Thursday and a colder vigorous west to southwesterly airstream will become established over Bass Strait and southern Victoria. On Friday the low will steadily move southeastwards across the southern Tasman Sea and by Saturday a new high pressure system will be moving over Bight waters. The high is expected to extend a ridge to southern Victoria on Sunday, however a cold front is expected to move from the Southern Ocean undercutting the high to reach Tasmania on Sunday night.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayShowers, mostly over southern and mountain districts with scattered thunderstorms. Cooler, moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds extending to the east and becoming strong about parts of the coast.Thursday 20 FebruaryScattered showers across mainly southern and mountain districts, falling as snow above 1700 metres. Local thunderstorms in the south, clearing by the afternoon. Cool to cold with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, strong at times near the coast.Fire Danger -  Generally high.Friday 21 FebruaryIsolated showers in the south. Fine over the north. Cool to mild with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.Saturday 22 FebruaryFine after isolated morning showers near the coast. Mild to warm with a moderate to fresh south to southwesterly wind.Sunday 23 FebruaryFine and mild to warm. A mostly sunny day with light winds and afternoon coastal sea breezes.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EDT Thursday.Product IDV10310
