Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 18/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A cold front and upper level trough will enter western Victoria this morning before moving across the remainder of the State during the day. An existing low pressure centre over Bass Strait will intensify as it drifts southwards over Tasmania today and will be centred just to the south of Tasmania on Thursday. On Friday, the low will move away to the southeast as the next high pressure system approaches waters south of the Bight. The high will extend a ridge across Victoria over the weekend.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayShowers extending to all districts today although only isolated showers expected over the far northwest. Scattered thunderstorms developing over western and central districts this morning and extending to eastern districts this afternoon. Possible hail and squally winds with thunderstorms. Warm in the east with moderate to fresh northwest to northerly winds, but cooler fresh to strong west to southwesterly winds gradually extending over remaining districts.Fire Danger -  Generally High to Very High.Thursday 20 FebruaryScattered showers across mainly southern and mountain districts, falling as snow above 1500 metres. Local hail and thunder in the south, mainly in the morning. Cool to cold with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, strong at times near the coast.Friday 21 FebruaryIsolated showers in the south. Fine over the north. Cool to mild with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.Saturday 22 FebruaryFine after isolated morning showers near the coast. Mild to warm with a moderate to fresh south to southwesterly wind.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Wednesday.Product IDV10310
