MELBOURNE - Feb 18/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A strong cold front will enter western Victoria Wednesday morning before moving across the remainder of the State during the day. An associated deep low pressure system will develop to the southeast of Tasmania Wednesday night before moving southeastwards on Thursday. On Friday a high pressure system will move towards waters south of the Bight and extend a ridge of high pressure towards Victoria. The high pressure system will drift over Tasmania during the weekend. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayIsolated showers in the east, mainly about the ranges, but dry elsewhere. Light to moderate west to northwesterly winds and coastal seabreezes.Wednesday 19 FebruaryScattered showers extending eastwards across southern and mountain districts and becoming widespread near the coast. Isolated showers extending over the northern plains. Isolated thunderstorms near and south of the ranges. Local hail possible in the southwest later. Mild to warm in the east at first, otherwise cool with fresh to strong southwesterly winds.Fire Danger - Generally High to Very High.Thursday 20 FebruaryScattered showers across mainly southern and mountain districts, falling as snow above 1500 metres. Local hail and thunder in the south, mainly in the morning. Cool to cold with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, strong at times near the coast.Friday 21 FebruaryIsolated showers in the south. Fine over the north. Cool to mild with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.Saturday 22 FebruaryFine after isolated morning showers near the coast.
