Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 18/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A low pressure trough will deepen over eastern NSW today and Wednesday as a strong cold front approaches southeastern Australia. Northerly winds will develop over the east of the state bring moisture from inland Queensland further south with showers and thunderstorms in the northeast today, extending further south Wednesday and increasing to rain areas in some parts. The rain is expected contract to the far northeast during Thursday then ease as the cold front and associated cooler, drier air crosses most of NSW. A high pressure ridge is likely to extend across the state on Friday with any rainfall contracting to near the Queensland border and just isolated showers possible near the coast.
Forecast for the rest of TuesdayScattered showers and isolated thunderstorms about the northeast third, particularly about the North West Slopes and Plains and Northern Tablelands. Dry and mostly clear remainder. Northeast winds along the coast, freshening in the south, chiefly northwest to southwest winds inland.Wednesday 19 FebruaryShowers and isolated thunderstorms over the northeast half, tending to rain areas and scattered thunderstorms about much of the northeast quarter of the state, possibly locally severe. Isolated showers developing in the south. Dry and partly cloudy elsewhere. North to northeast winds, becoming fresh to strong near the coast, before a cooler, drier southwesterly change extends through the west and south.Fire Danger -  Very high: Lower Central West Plains, Southern Slopes, Riverina, Monaro Alpine.Thursday 20 FebruaryRain areas and isolated thunderstorms in the northeast, locally heavy about the western slopes of the ranges, easing and contracting towards the coast during the day. Mostly sunny remainder. Cooler, drier southwest to southeasterly winds extending to all districts apart from the far northeast.Friday 21 FebruaryIsolated showers and thunderstorms in the far northeast. Isolated showers along the remainder of the coast and on the far southern ranges. Dry and mostly sunny elsewhere. South to southeasterly winds throughout.Saturday 22 FebruaryIsolated showers in the northeast and possible about the central coast and ranges. Mostly sunny remainder.
