MELBOURNE - Feb 17/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure trough will deepen over eastern NSW Tuesday and Wednesday as a strong cold front approaches southeastern Australia. Northerly winds will develop over the state bring moisture from inland Queensland into the northeast third or so, with showers and thunderstorms Tuesday increasing to rain areas on Wednesday. The rain is expected to ease and contract to the far northeast on Thursday as the cold front and associated cooler, drier air crosses most of NSW. A high pressure ridge is likely to extend across the state on Friday with any rainfall contracting to near the Queensland border and just isolated showers possible near the coast. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayScattered showers and isolated thunderstorms about the northeast third, particularly about the North West Slopes and Plains and Northern Tablelands during the afternoon. Dry and mostly sunny remainder. Isolated early fog patches in the east. Northeast winds along the coast, freshening in the south, chiefly northwest to southwest winds inland.Wednesday 19 FebruaryRain areas and isolated thunderstorms over the northeast third, heavier and more persistent about the western slopes of the ranges and adjacent plains. Isolated showers developing in the south. Dry and partly cloudy elsewhere. North to northeast winds, becoming fresh to strong near the coast, before a cooler, drier southwesterly change extends through the west and south.Thursday 20 FebruaryScattered showers and isolated thunderstorms in the northeast easing and contracting towards the coast and eastern ranges. Dry mostly sunny remainder. Cooler, drier southwest to southeasterly winds extending to all districts apart from the far northeast.Friday 21 FebruaryIsolated showers in the far northeast, and possibly along the remainder of the northern and central coast. Dry and mostly sunny elsewhere.
