MELBOURNE - Feb 17/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A weak low pressure trough will lie over Victoria during Tuesday. A strong cold front should enter western Victoria Wednesday morning before moving across the remainder of the State during the day. An associated deep low pressure system will develop to the southeast of Tasmania Wednesday night before moving southeastwards on Thursday. On Friday a high pressure system will move towards waters south of the Bight and extend a ridge of high pressure towards Victoria. Forecast for the rest of MondayFine apart from isolated showers in the southwest. Generally light winds and coastal seabreezes.Tuesday 18 FebruaryIsolated afternoon showers over the eastern ranges and isolated showers developing in the southwest later in the day. Dry elsewhere. Early fog patches. Mild to warm and generally light winds and afternoon coastal seabreezes.Fire Danger - Generally High.Wednesday 19 FebruaryScattered showers extending eastwards across southern and mountain districts and becoming widespread near the coast. Isolated showers extending over the northern plains. Isolated thunderstorms possible in the south. Local hail possible in the southwest later. Mild in the far east at first, otherwise cool with fresh to strong southwesterly winds.Thursday 20 FebruaryScattered showers across mainly southern and mountain districts, falling as snow above 1500 metres. Local hail and thunder in the south. Cool to cold with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, strong at times near the coast.Friday 21 FebruaryIsolated showers in the south. Fine over the north.
