Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 16/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A deep low pressure system is located over the south Tasman Sea and will be near the south island of New Zealand by late Monday. A weak ridge of high pressure will briefly extend over Victoria on Monday, then weaken on Tuesday. A strong cold front should enter western Victoria early Wednesday morning, moving across the remainder of the State during the day. A deep low pressure system will move south of Tasmania on Thursday as a high pressure ridge extends from the Bight across northern Victoria.
Forecast for the rest of MondayIsolated showers over the far southeast clearing during the morning. Dry elsewhere, apart from isolated showers developing in the southwest late afternoon or evening. Areas of smoke haze over Gippsland, mainly in the east. Mild in the south, warmer north of the divide. Generally light winds and afternoon coastal seabreezes.Fire Danger -  Generally high.Tuesday 18 FebruaryIsolated showers developing in the southwest later in the day. Mild to warm and partly cloudy with variable winds, tending moderate southwesterly.Wednesday 19 FebruaryScattered showers extending across southern and mountain districts, extending over the northern plains in the morning. Snowfalls above 1600 metres about the alpine area and possible hail in the south. Cool to cold with fresh to strong southwesterly winds.Thursday 20 FebruaryScattered showers across mainly southern and mountain districts, falling as snow above 1500 metres in the morning. Cool to cold with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, strong at times near the coast.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Monday.Product IDV10310
