MELBOURNE - Feb 15/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A trough in far southwest Queensland will progress eastwards across the southern interior through the remainder of the weekend, with hot northerly winds ahead of the trough, and cooler conditions developing following its passage. The trough is expected to stall over the interior of the state early next week with unstable conditions persisting to its east. Monsoonal flow is likely to return to the far north during Monday and Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of SundayCloudy with widespread showers and and scattered thunderstorms over western districts, extending into the central and southern interior during the day while clearing in the far southwest; these thunderstorms may produce some locally heavy falls. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the remainder of the tropics, becoming much more isolated over the southeast inland. Hot conditions over the southeast of the state, while a much cooler day is expected in the Channel Country.Fire Danger - Very High over the southeast inland and the far southwest.Monday 17 FebruaryScattered showers, rain areas and thunderstorms over the tropics and central parts of the state. Scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout much of the rest of the state. Drier air should extend into the southwest of the state with mostly fine conditions in the Channel Country.Tuesday 18 FebruaryScattered showers, rain areas and thunderstorms over most parts of the state, particularly through the tropics and the interior. Shower and storms should increase further about the state's far north as the monsoon trough strengthens.Wednesday 19 FebruaryA trough should remain over the interior of the state during the latter part of the week, and moisture flowing towards the trough should generate further showers, rain areas and storms over the eastern half of the state.Thursday until SaturdayA humid and unstable airmass should remain in place over eastern and northern parts of the state, with further showers and thunderstorms. The inland trough is likely to move off the southern coast on Friday, followed by a firm ridge developing along the southern half of the east coast. At the same time, monsoonal flow is likely to remain in place over the far north.
