MELBOURNE - Feb 15/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A broad low pressure system over southern New South Wales will move slowly eastwards to be near the northeast Victorian border by this evening, while a secondary low pressure centre will develop over eastern Bass Strait. This second low will track southeastwards to be located over the south Tasman Sea later on Sunday and near the south island of New Zealand by late Monday. A weak ridge of high pressure will briefly extend over Victoria on Monday then a low pressure trough will cross mainly southern Victoria on Tuesday. A stronger cold front will approach western Victoria on Tuesday night, moving across the State on Wednesday. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayScattered showers over the northeast. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over most districts, extending eastwards overnight. Smoke haze contracting to the east. Moderate southwesterly winds extending eastwards.Sunday 16 FebruaryCool to mild and on and south of the ranges with scattered showers. Isolated thunderstorms in the east, clearing in the afternoon. Isolated showers penetrating north of the divide, but mainly dry over the northwest. Moderate to fresh southwest to southerly winds.Fire Danger - Mainly high.Monday 17 FebruaryIsolated showers over the southeast clearing during the morning. Dry elsewhere. Mild in the south, warmer north of the divide with generally light winds and afternoon coastal seabreezes.Tuesday 18 FebruaryIsolated showers in he southeast and developing in the southwest later in the day. Mild to warm and partly cloudy with variable winds, tending moderate southwesterly.Wednesday 19 FebruaryScattered showers extending across southern and mountain districts, extending over the northern plains in the morning. Snowfalls above 1600 metres about the alpine area and possible hail in the south.
