MELBOURNE - Feb 14/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A broad low pressure system over southwest New South Wales will move slowly eastwards to be near the northeast Victorian border by this evening, while a secondary low pressure centre will develop over eastern Bass Strait. This second low will track southeastwards to lie east of Tasmania on Sunday and over the southern Tasman Sea on Monday. A weak ridge of high pressure will briefly extend over Victoria on Monday then a cold front will cross southern Victoria on Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayAreas of rain near the northern border contracting to northeast Victoria by early afternoon then easing to showers. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms developing over remaining southern and mountain areas, and extending to the northwest inland during the afternoon. Smoke haze contracting to the east. Mild in the south but a little warmer across the north. Moderate to fresh southwesterly winds extending eastwards during the day.Fire Danger - Moderate to high.Sunday 16 FebruaryCool to mild and on and south of the ranges with scattered showers, more widespread over far eastern areas. Isolated showers penetrating north of the divide, but mainly dry over the far north. Moderate to fresh southwest to southerly winds.Monday 17 FebruaryIsolated showers over the southeast clearing during the morning and isolated showers developing in the southwest late in the day. Dry elsewhere. Mild in the south, warmer north of the divide with generally light winds and afternoon coastal seabreezes.Tuesday 18 FebruaryIsolated showers developing on and south of the dividing range, scattered in the far southwest.
