MELBOURNE - Feb 14/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A deep low 992 hPa near Whyalla will move eastwards to be south of Yunta late Friday evening and then over southwest NSW early Saturday. Another deep low over the far northwest corner of the State will move eastwards to be over the far northeast corner on Saturday night. A band of rain over the northern agricultural area and south of the pastoral districts will contract to the Northeast Pastoral during Saturday. A high will move over the Bight on Sunday. Forecast for the rest of FridayAreas of rain and isolated gusty thunderstorms northeast of about Lameroo to Adelaide to Tarcoola, tending widespread with local heavy falls and local flooding about the Northwest Pastoral, Flinders, Mid-North, Riverland and south of the Northeast Pastoral districts, gradually contracting northeastwards. Isolated showers elsewhere. Cool to mild in the south and west grading to hot in the far northeast. Mainly moderate to fresh northwest winds in the northeast, tending easterly in the southeast and southerly in the west.Saturday 15 FebruaryAreas of rain and isolated thunderstorms northeast of about Yunta to Woomera to Ernabella, with local heavy falls and local flooding, contracting to northeast of Marree in the evening. Isolated showers elsewhere. Hot with moderate northwest winds in the far northeast, cool to mild with moderate to fresh south to southwest winds over the remainder.Sunday 16 FebruaryAreas of rain and isolated thunderstorms northeast of Marree, contracting eastwards. Fine over the remainder apart from possible isolated showers over the southern agricultural area, chiefly in the morning. Cool to mild in the south grading to warm in the north with mainly moderate southwest to southeasterly windsMonday 17 February Possible isolated showers and thunderstorms in the far northeast corner. Possible isolated showers developing about southern coasts in the afternoon. Mild in the south, grading to warm in the north with light to moderate southwest to southeasterly winds. Cumulative rainfall totals from Friday morning to midnight Monday are expected to be 20 to 60 mm in widespread rain areas and in the far northwest, with local falls of 60 to 100 mm possible. Rain will ease to 5 to 20 mm over the remainder, grading to less than 5 mm in the Lower South East. The majority of this rainfall will occur today. Tuesday 18 February Possible isolated showers in the far northeast corner. Possible isolated showers about southern coastal districts. Mild in the south, grading to warm in the north with moderate southwest to southeasterly winds. Cumulative rainfall totals from Friday afternoon to midnight Tuesday are expected to be 40-60 mm over the the agricultural area northeast of Adelaide, the Northeast Pastoral district and the Northwest Pastoral north of Woomera, with local falls of 60 to 120 mm over the Northwest Pastoral north of Coober Pedy.
