MELBOURNE - Feb 12/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system over the Tasman Sea will move slowly east and weaken over the next few days. A low over northern WA will move southeastwards to reach western parts of South Australia on Friday then move across the state on Saturday as a weak ridge of high pressure develops to the south of the Bight. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayThe SES has issued an Extreme Heat Warning. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over western districts, tending to rain over Lower Eyre Peninsula later this evening. Possible isolated showers and thunderstorms in the northeast. Warm to hot overnight with moderate to fresh east to northeasterly winds shifting southwest to southeasterly over southern parts of the State.Thursday 13 FebruaryThe SES has issued an Extreme Heat Warning. Patchy rain and isolated thunderstorms extending across the State and reaching areas west of a line Coober Pedy to Whyalla and Lameroo, increasing to areas of rain west of Spencer Gulf. Isolated showers and thunderstorms developing elsewhere south and west of about Oodnadatta to Leigh Creek and Broken Hill. Hot to very hot with moderate to fresh northerly winds ahead of a milder south to southeasterly change about western and southern coasts.Friday 14 FebruaryPatchy rain and isolated thunderstorms extending across the State, apart from the far northeast corner of the North East Pastoral district, increasing to areas of rain southwest of about Coober Pedy to Leigh Creek and Broken Hill. Possible heavy falls with widespread rain focused in a band through northern Eyre Peninsula, Mid North and the Riverland. Rain gradually contracting to northeast of a line Coober Pedy to Leigh Creek to Renmark by the end of the day. Possible isolated showers following the clearance of the rain and thunderstorms, mainly confined to the coastal areas. Generally warm with light to moderate southeasterly winds in areas of rain, increasing to hot to very hot with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds towards the northeast corner of the State.Saturday 15 FebruaryAreas of rain and isolated thunderstorms northeast of Coober Pedy, Leigh Creek and Broken Hill contracting to the northeast corner during the day. Isolated light showers about the coastal areas, possibly extending inland over agricultural areas and southern parts of the Pastoral districts. Mild to warm with light to moderate southerly winds in the south, increasing to hot to very hot with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds in the far northeast corner of the State.Sunday 16 February Areas of rain and isolated thunderstorms in the far northeast, gradually easing during the day. Isolated light showers about southern coasts clearing early morning. Mild in the south grading to warm to hot in the northeast. Moderate southeasterly winds. Cumulative rainfall totals from Wednesday afternoon to midnight Sunday are expected to be 5 to 20 mm with local falls of 20 mm to 50 mm in areas of rain and isolated falls in excess of 50 mm with widespread rain focused in a band through northern Eyre Peninsula, Mid North and the Riverland. Monday until WednesdayPossible isolated showers and thunderstorms persisting in the far northeast through the early part of next week. Fine elsewhere until a front moves over the southern parts of the State on Wednesday bringing possible isolated showers to the agricultural areas. Mild to warm in the south, grading to warm to hot in the north.
