Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 12/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system is located over the Tasman Sea and is drifting slowly eastwards. Meanwhile, a tropical disturbance over Western Australia will develop into a broad low pressure system over South Australia on Thursday. The low will then move across southern New South Wales and far northwest Victoria on Friday to be located just east of Gippsland late Saturday. The low will move away across the Tasman Sea on Sunday whilst the next ridge of high pressure moves from the Bight towards western Victoria.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayAreas of smoke haze over most districts, but generally clear over the northwest. South to southeasterly winds over southern Victoria extending over northern districts this evening.Thursday 13 FebruaryAreas of smoke haze particularly over southern and eastern Victoria. Early morning fog patches over Gippsland. A mostly cloudy day with scattered showers developing over northwest, but only isolated showers elsewhere. Isolated thunderstorms possible over the far northwest during the evening. Mild near the coast, but warmer inland. Generally light winds in the east but moderate to locally fresh east to southeasterly winds developing across western Victoria.Fire Danger -  High in the north and west.Friday 14 FebruaryAreas of rain over far northwest Victoria and the chance of thunderstorms. Isolated showers possible over most remaining districts. Areas of smoke haze in the east. Mild to warm with light to moderate southeast to east winds.Saturday 15 FebruaryPartly cloudy with isolated showers. Mild in the south but a little warmer across the north. . Milder with a fresh and gusty southwest wind.Sunday 16 FebruaryMild and partly cloudy on and south of the ranges with isolated showers. Dry, mild to warm and mostly sunny over the north. Light southerly winds freshening during the afternoon.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EDT Thursday.Product IDV10310
