MELBOURNE - Feb 11/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system over the Tasman Sea will move slowly east and weaken over the next few days. A low over northern WA will move southeastwards to reach western parts of South Australia on Friday as a weak ridge of high pressure develops to the south of the Bight. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayThe SES has issued an Extreme Heat Warning. Dry apart from isolated showers and possible thunderstorms over the north and west. A warm to hot evening with light to moderate southeast to northeasterly winds.Wednesday 12 FebruaryThe SES has issued an Extreme Heat Warning. Isolated showers and thunderstorms in the far west extending over the remainder of western districts in the afternoon and early evening. Hot to very hot with moderate to fresh east to northeasterly winds.Thursday 13 FebruaryThe SES has issued an Extreme Heat Warning. Patchy rain and isolated thunderstorms extending over western agricultural districts and southern agricultural areas by the end of the day, increasing to areas of rain west of Spencer Gulf. Isolated showers and thunderstorms developing elsewhere south and west of about Oodnadatta to Leigh Creek to Mildura. Hot to very hot with moderate to fresh northerly winds ahead of a milder south to southeasterly change about western and southern coasts.Friday 14 FebruaryPatchy rain extending across the State, apart from the northeast corner of the North East Pastoral district, increasing to areas of rain southwest of about Tarcoola to Clare to Lameroo. Generally warm with light to moderate southeasterly winds in areas of rain, increasing to hot to very hot with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds towards the northeast corner of the State.Saturday 15 February Areas of rain easing and contracting to the north of the North East Pastoral district by the end of the day. Isolated light showers about the coastal areas following the clearing rain. Generally warm with light to moderate southerly winds in the south, increasing to hot to very hot with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds in the far northeast corner of the State. Cumulative rainfall totals from Tuesday to midnight Saturday are expected to be 5 to 20 mm with local falls of 20 mm to 50 mm in areas of rain and isolated falls in excess of 50 mm with thunderstorms. There is a moderate level of uncertainty with these totals due to the variation in timing and track of a low pressure system as it moves over the state during Friday and Saturday. Sunday until TuesdayIsolated light showers about the coastal areas and the Patchy rain in the far northeast all clearing Sunday morning. Fine for the remainder of the period.
