MELBOURNE - Feb 10/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation The monsoon trough lies from a low over the Kimberley district of Western Australia to Ex-Tropical Cyclone Fletcher over the far northwestern Gulf Country. A weakening trough lies just off the northeast tropical coast. Ex Fletcher is expected to track southwestwards into the central Northern Territory, and the monsoon influence over northern Queensland will dissipate with the retreat of this system. A strengthening ridge is developing along the east coast of Queensland, and will remain in place for most of this week. Forecast for the rest of MondayIsolated showers and thunderstorms across most of the state, generally more scattered over the west and far north. Rain areas about the northwest, with some heavy falls possible about the western Gulf Country. Mainly fine over southeastern districts. Mostly moderate southeast to northeast winds.Fire Danger - Very High over the west and southeast inland.Tuesday 11 FebruaryScattered showers and thunderstorms over western and far northern districts. Showers easing along the north tropical coast. Fine and mostly sunny over the eastern inland, with only isolated showers about the east coast.Wednesday 12 FebruaryShowers and thunderstorms over the far north of the state and also the far west. Isolated showers about the east coast north of Fraser Island in the onshore flow. Dry over the south and remaining interior as the ridge pushes dry air into the state.Thursday 13 FebruaryScattered showers and thunderstorms continuing over the far north of the state. Isolated showers about the east coast north of about Fraser Island due to onshore flow provided by a firm ridge. Possible showers or thunderstorms about the southern Darling Downs. Dry over the remaining interior and the south.Friday until SundayIsolated showers and thunderstorms over the far north of the state. A trough will enter the southwest of the state on Friday and will gradually move to the northeast over the weekend. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will track with the trough across the south and west of the state during the outlook period.
