MELBOURNE - Feb 8/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation The monsoon trough lies from a low over the Northern Territory to another low over the southeast Gulf of Carpentaria, then across Cape York Peninsula and into the northern Coral Sea. A ridge currently lies along Queensland's southern and central east coast, extending from a high in the Tasman Sea [1023 hPa]. A surface trough over the central Coral Sea is moving westward, and will move onto the central east coast during today and push inland on Sunday. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayRain areas and isolated thunderstorms over the far north, more widespread and with locally heavy falls near the south coast of the Gulf of Carpentaria and about the North Tropical coast. Showers over remaining eastern districts, increasing to rain late in the day about the central coast, Capricornia and Wide Bay with isolated thunderstorms also possible. Fine and mostly sunny through the state's interior.Sunday 9 FebruaryRain areas and thunderstorms over the state's far north, with some locally heavy falls about the south coast of the Gulf of Carpentaria and North Tropical Coast. Frequent showers tending to rain periods about the central, Capricornia, Wide Bay and northeast coast, and scattered showers and storms developing across a lot of the state's interior. Mainly fine over the far south except for the chance of some isolated showers and storms over the southern interior.Monday 10 FebruaryScattered showers and thunderstorms across most of the state. Rain areas about the far north of the state, mostly about the Gulf Country. Mainly fine over the southern districts except for the chance of some isolated showers and storms over the southern interior.Tuesday 11 FebruaryScattered showers and thunderstorms over the western and northern districts. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the interior, and mainly isolated showers about the east coast north of Fraser Island.Wednesday 12 FebruaryShowers and thunderstorms over the north of the state. Isolated showers about the east coast as the ridge builds. Dry over the south and the interior as the ridge pushes dry air into the state.Thursday until SaturdayScattered showers and thunderstorms continuing over the north of the state. Isolated showers about the east coast north of about Fraser Island due to a strong ridge.
