MELBOURNE - Feb 7/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation The monsoon trough lies from a low over the Northern Territory to another low over the southeast Gulf of Carpentaria, then across Cape York Peninsula and into the northern Coral Sea. A ridge currently lies along Queensland's southern and central east coast from a high in the Tasman Sea. A surface trough over the central Coral Sea is expected to move westward, and is likely to move onto the central and tropical east coast over the weekend. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayRain areas and isolated thunderstorms over the far north, more widespread and with locally heavy falls near the south coast of the Gulf of Carpentaria and about the North Tropical coast. Showers over remaining eastern districts, increasing to rain late in the day about the central coast with isolated thunderstorms also becoming possible. Fine and mostly sunny through the state's interior.Fire Danger - Very High about the southwest and southern inland.Sunday 9 FebruaryRain areas and thunderstorms over the state's far north, with some locally heavy falls about the south coast of the Gulf of Carpentaria. Frequent showers tending to rain periods about the central and northeast coast, and scattered showers and storms developing across a lot of the state's interior. Mainly fine over the far south except for the chance of some isolated showers and storms over the southern interior.Monday 10 FebruaryScattered showers and thunderstorms across most of the state, and rain areas about the far north of the state. Mainly fine over the southern districts except for the chance of some isolated showers and storms over the southern interior.Tuesday 11 FebruaryScattered showers and thunderstorms over the western and northern districts.
