Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 7/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
The monsoon trough lies from a low over the Northern Territory to another low over the southeast Gulf of Carpentaria, then across Cape York Peninsula and into the northern Coral Sea. A ridge currently lies along Queensland's southern and central east coast from a high in the Tasman Sea. A surface trough over the central Coral Sea is expected to move westward, and is likely to move onto the central and tropical east coast over the weekend.
Forecast for the rest of FridayRain areas and isolated thunderstorms over the far north, with locally heavy falls near the Gulf of Carpentaria and the North Tropical coasts. Scattered showers over the far northern interior, and mostly isolated showers about eastern districts. Moderate to fresh northwest to northeast winds through the far northern tropics. Moderate to fresh southeast to northeast winds elsewhere, fresh at times about the central coast.Saturday 8 FebruaryRain areas and isolated thunderstorms over the far north, more widespread and with locally heavy falls near the south coast of the Gulf of Carpentaria and about the North Tropical coast. Showers over remaining eastern districts, increasing late in the day or evening about the central coast with isolated thunderstorms becoming possible. Fine and mostly sunny through the state's interior.Fire Danger -  Very High about the southwest, and southern inland.Sunday 9 FebruaryRain areas and thunderstorms over the state's far north, with some locally heavy falls about the south coast of the Gulf of Carpentaria. Frequent showers tending to rain periods about the central and northeast coast, and scattered showers and storms over the central and northern interior districts. Mainly fine over the southern districts except for the chance of some isolated showers and storms over the southern interior.Monday 10 FebruaryScattered showers and thunderstorms over the northern and central districts. Mainly fine over the southern districts except for the chance of some isolated showers and storms over the southern interior.Tuesday 11 FebruaryScattered showers and thunderstorms over the western and northern districts. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the interior, and mainly isolated showers about the central and southeast coast.Wednesday until FridayShowers and thunderstorms contracting into the far northern districts later in the week as a ridge builds along the east coast and dryer, more stable southeasterly trade winds penetrate northwards.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Saturday.Product IDQ10700
