MELBOURNE - Feb 7/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A weak trough of low pressure over central Victoria will push into the east of the State tonight then weaken out by Saturday morning. A stronger low pressure trough will develop over the Bight during Saturday and will link to a low pressure system further south before entering southwestern Victoria on Saturday night. The trough will move rapidly across the State on Sunday, bringing with it a cooler, fresh to strong and gusty southwesterly change, expected through central districts during the morning and clearing eastern districts by late afternoon. A high pressure system will develop over Bight waters on Sunday night before moving rapidly east to pass just south of Tasmania on Monday night then over the southern Tasman Sea on Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of FridayMainly dry with just the odd thundery shower about the eastern ranges. Very warm inland but milder in the south with southerly winds.Saturday 8 FebruaryHot to very hot and mostly sunny although some milder sea breezes about the coastal fringe. The chance of afternoon thundery showers about the southwestern and central coast. Light to moderate northerly winds, shifting milder southwesterly in the west at night.Fire Danger - Very high to Severe.Sunday 9 FebruaryHot at first over most districts with freshening north to northwesterly winds, locally strong over central districts and the eastern highlands. A gusty cooler southwesterly change in the west early in the morning, moving to central districts and the northwest by late morning then extending into eastern districts during the afternoon. Isolated showers in the southwest with and following the change.Monday 10 FebruaryFine and mainly sunny. Mild to warm in the south, warm to very warm inland. South to southeasterly winds, moderate to fresh in the south.Tuesday 11 FebruaryFine and generally sunny. Very warm to hot in the north and west but milder in Gippsland and near the coast.
