Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 6/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
The monsoon trough lies over the southern coast of the Gulf of Carpentaria and will remain in a similar position over the next few days. A ridge lies along Queensland's east coast. A surface trough is likely to move across the Coral Sea over the next few days and onto the central coast by the end of the weekend.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayRain areas and storms over the state's far north, with moderate to locally heavy falls about the Peninsula district. Scattered showers and storms over the far northern interior, and mostly isolated showers about the eastern districts. Fine and mostly sunny over the central and southern interior except for some isolated dry thunderstorms about the southern state border. Moderate to fresh northwest to northeast winds winds through the far northern tropics. Moderate to fresh southeast to northeast winds elsewhere, fresh at times about the southeast coast.Friday 7 FebruaryRain areas and storms over the far north, more widespread with locally heavy falls near the Gulf of Carpentaria and the North Tropical coasts. Scattered showers and storms over the far northern interior, and mostly isolated showers about the eastern districts. Moderate to fresh northwest to northeast winds through the far northern tropics. Moderate to fresh southeast to northeast winds elsewhere, fresh at times about the central coast.Fire Danger -  Very high about the western interior.Saturday 8 FebruaryRain areas and storms about the monsoon trough over the far north, more widespread and with locally heavy falls near the south coast of the Gulf of Carpentaria and about the North Tropical coast. Mainly isolated showers over remaining eastern districts, increasing during the day about the central coast as a trough approaches from the Coral Sea. Fine and mostly sunny through the state's interior.Sunday 9 FebruaryRain areas and storms over the state's far north, with some locally heavy falls about the south coast of the Gulf of Carpentaria. Frequent showers tending to rain periods about the central and northeast coast, and scattered showers and storms over the central and northern interior districts. Mainly fine over the southern districts except for the chance of some isolated showers and storms over the southern interior.Monday 10 FebruaryScattered showers and storms over the northern and central districts, tending to rain at times about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast and the North Tropical Coast. Mainly fine over the southern districts except for the chance of some isolated showers and storms over the southern interior.Tuesday until ThursdayScattered showers and storms over the western and northern districts on Tuesday, contracting into the far northern districts later in the week as a ridge builds up the east coast. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the interior, and mainly isolated showers about the central and southeast coast.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Friday.Product IDQ10700
