Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 5/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
The monsoon trough extends from a monsoon low over the Northern Territory, across the Gulf of Carpentaria into the northern Coral Sea and will remain in a similar position in the coming days. A ridge extends along the southern and central east coast of Queensland from a high in the Tasman Sea. A trough is likely to move west across the Coral Sea over the weekend and approach the east coast.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayRain areas and storms over the state's far north, with moderate to locally heavy falls about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Scattered showers and storms over the far northern interior, and mostly isolated showers about the eastern districts. Fine and mostly sunny over the central and southern interior except for some isolated dry thunderstorms about the southern state border. Fresh to strong west to northwest winds through the far northern tropics. Moderate to fresh southeast to northeasterly winds elsewhere, fresh at times near the coast south of Bowen.Fire Danger -  Very High over the western interior and the Central West.Friday 7 FebruaryRain areas, storms and locally heavy falls about the monsoon trough over the far north, more widespread near the Gulf of Carpentaria and the North Tropical coasts. Scattered showers and storms over the far northern interior, and mostly isolated showers about the eastern districts. Fresh west to northwest winds through the far northern tropics. Moderate to fresh southeast to northeasterly winds elsewhere, fresh at times near the coast south of Cardwell.Saturday 8 FebruaryRain areas, storms and locally heavy falls about the monsoon trough over the far north, more widespread near the Gulf of Carpentaria and the North Tropical coasts. Mainly isolated showers will occur over remaining eastern districts, possibly increasing about the central coast as a trough shifts west over the Coral Sea towards the coast. Fine and mostly sunny through the central and southern interior.Sunday 9 FebruaryRain areas and storms are likely to persist in the far northwest of the state and about the North Tropical Coast. Scattered showers and storms over the far northern interior. Scattered showers about the east coast, more widespread about the Central Coast. Fine and mostly sunny through the southern interior.Monday until WednesdayAreas of rain persisting about the southern Gulf coast and the North Tropical Coast early in the new week, contracting northwards over the Peninsula district by mid week. Scattered showers and storms over the western interior early in the new week, clearing by mid week. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the interior, and mainly isolated showers about the central and southeast coast.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Thursday.Product IDQ10700
