MELBOURNE - Feb 5/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation The monsoon trough extends across the southern reaches of the Gulf of Carpentaria and over the Peninsula district. A firm ridge lies along the east coast to the south of the monsoon trough. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayRain areas and storms over the state's far north, with moderate to locally heavy falls about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast and the North Tropical Coasts. Scattered showers and storms about the far northern interior, and mainly isolated showers over the eastern districts. Fine and mostly clear over the central and southern interior except for some isolated storms about the southern state border. Fresh to strong west to northwest winds through the far northern tropics. Moderate to fresh southeast to northeasterly winds elsewhere, fresh to strong at times near the coast south of Bowen.Thursday 6 FebruaryRain areas and storms over the state's far north, with moderate to locally heavy falls about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast and the North Tropical Coasts. Scattered showers and storms over the far northern interior, and mostly isolated showers about the eastern districts. Fine and mostly sunny over the central and southern interior except for some isolated storms about the southern state border. Fresh to strong west to northwest winds through the far northern tropics. Mainly isolated showers will occur over remaining eastern districts, possibly increasing about the central coast as a trough shifts west over the Coral Sea towards the coast. Fine and mostly sunny through the central and southern interior.Sunday 9 FebruaryRain areas and storms are likely to persist in the far northwest of the state and about the North Tropical Coast. Scattered showers and storms over the far northern interior, and mainly isolated showers about the east coast, more widespread about the Central Coast.Monday until WednesdayAreas of rain persisting about the southern Gulf coast and the North Tropical Coast early in the new week, contracting northwards over the Peninsula district by mid week. Scattered showers and storms over the western interior early in the new week, clearing by mid week.
