MELBOURNE - Feb 4/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system west of Tasmania will continue to move rapidly east to pass just south of Tasmania tonight. The high will slow down as it moves over the southern Tasman Sea on Wednesday and Thursday. A weak inland trough of low pressure will develop over western Victoria on Thursday and persist on Friday before weakening out on Friday night. A stronger low pressure trough will develop over the Bight during Saturday and will link to a low pressure system further south and approach western Victoria on Saturday night. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayDry and mostly clear. Fresh southeasterly winds, strong at first about the western and central ranges and along the coast but easing slowly inland at night.Wednesday 5 FebruaryIsolated showers possible about the Gippsland coast during the early morning. Fine and sunny otherwise. A generally warm day, though hot over the northwest and milder over Gippsland.Fire Danger - High to Very High.Thursday 6 FebruaryFine and sunny. A very warm to hot day with light to moderate north to northeasterly winds and afternoon coastal seabreezes.Friday 7 FebruaryA generally hot and dry day with light to moderate north to northwesterly winds. A weak milder southerly change developing about the southwest and central coast with isolated late showers possible.Saturday 8 FebruaryGenerally hot to very hot and mostly sunny although some milder sea breezes about the coastal fringe.
