Easier Thai Rice Markets

BANGKOK - May 6/07 - SNS -- Unusually quiet export demand added downward pressure to Thailand's rice market, notes the U.S. agricultural attache in a report on the country's rice sector.

"Foreign buyers are hesitant due to expected lower export prices following an increase in domestic supplies from the second crop harvest and the government stock release.

"Also, the government intervention program for the second crop continues to be less aggressive with unattractive intervention prices." the agricultural attache said.
