Ag Canada Sees Less Mustard in 2004-05

VANCOUVER - Jun 4/04 - STAT -- In its latest monthly review of Canadian mustard seed, Agriculture Canada's market analysis branch in Winnipeg expects western Canadian production to fall 9.3% this year to 205,000 metric tons (MT) in response to a forecast 14.6% decrease in seeded area to 280,000 hectares or roughly 692,000 acres.

Discussing markets for the coming season, Agriculture Canada said, "Production is expected to decrease for the brown and yellow types, but increase moderately for the oriental type. However, supply is forecast to increase due to higher carry-in stocks."
