NEW DELHI - Oct 22/03 - SNS -- Recently published data reveals India's demand for imported planting seed advanced during the 2001-02 marketing year, ending up at 860 metric tons (MT), with the United States supplying 20% of the market and Korea 22%.
India remains a net exporter of planting seed, which shipments during 2001-02 reaching 4,961 MT, down from 9,295 MT in 2000-01. The United States was the largest importer with a market share of 24%.
Interestingly, India's seed imports have been growing in recent years, with purchases in 2001 nearly double those for 1997.
