Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 25/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A weak trough lies from the northwest of the state to the southeast interior and will remain near stationary over the weekend. A southerly change is moving north along the east coast, and is expected to weaken out about the Capricornia coast region early Saturday morning. A high over southern Australia will push a ridge of high pressure up Queensland's east coast during the weekend.
Forecast for the rest of FridayIsolated showers and thunderstorms in a band from the Gulf Country down to the Capricornia and northern Wide Bay area. Fine and mostly clear elsewhere. Mainly moderate south to southeasterly winds over the interior. Mostly moderate northeast to northwesterly winds over most of the remainder of the state, except for some fresh southeast winds about the coast south of St. Lawrence.Saturday 26 OctoberA ridge of high pressure over southern Australia should produce mainly fine and sunny conditions across Queensland except for some isolated showers about the Central Coast and the central interior, and some isolated showers and storms about the Gulf Country. Moderate to fresh southeast winds across the interior, and moderate to fresh northeast to southeast winds across the eastern districts.Fire Danger -  Severe over the Northwest and Channel Country districts, high to very high elsewhere.Sunday 27 OctoberA ridge over southern Australia should maintain fine and mostly sunny conditions across Queensland except for some showers about parts of the east coast and some isolated showers and storms about the state's northwest.Monday 28 OctoberA high should enter the Tasman Sea from the west and is likely to push some isolated showers onto Cape York Peninsula. The rest of the state should be fine and mostly sunny except for a band of showers and storms extending from the state's northwest to the southeast interior.Tuesday 29 OctoberAn upper level trough should produce a band of shower and storms stretching from the state's northwest to its southeast. Fine though partly cloudy over the remainder of the state.Wednesday until FridayA high should drift from Australia's southeast into the Tasman sea, causing an area of showers near the southeast coast mid-week to contract northwards to the central coast region towards the end of the working week. An upper level trough may also help produce some showers and storms about the southern interior late in the working week.
