Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 22/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A complex low pressure system over eastern Bass Strait will track steadily southeastwards over the Tasman Sea during today. A cold front will move northeastwards across waters south of the continent to reach southwest Victoria this evening before crossing the remainder of the State early on Thursday. A cold and unstable southwesterly airstream following the front will moderate slowly on Friday and a high pressure ridge will extend from Bight waters to northwest Victoria late on Friday and Saturday. A deep low over the southern Tasman Sea will prevent this ridge moving further east until late in the weekend.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayRain areas in South Gippsland and isolated thunderstorms over the far east clearing this morning. Scattered showers to follow in the south, more isolated in the north and fine over the far northwest. Morning fog patches in Gippsland. Local hail in the southwest tonight. Cool and mostly cloudy with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds extending throughout, strong at times near the coast.Thursday 24 OctoberScattered showers over southern and mountain districts more widespread near the coast during the morning with the chance of thunderstorms. Possible hail, mainly in the south. Showers falling as snow down to 800 metres. A generally cold and partly cloudy day with to moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, strong at times near the coast.Friday 25 OctoberEarly morning frost patches in the north. Isolated showers in the south, scattered near the coast. Dry in the north. A cool to mild and partly cloudy day with light to moderate west to southwest winds, fresh along the coast.Saturday 26 OctoberIsolated showers in the south but dry over the north. Cool to mild and partly cloudy with moderate west to southwesterly winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Wednesday.Product IDV10310
