MELBOURNE - Oct 22/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A complex low pressure system entering western Victoria will move southeastwards across the State overnight then over eastern Bass Strait on Wednesday morning before tracking steadily over the Tasman Sea later Wednesday. A cold front will move northeastwards across waters south of the continent to reach southwest Victoria Wednesday evening then cross the remainder of the State early on Thursday. A cold and unstable southwesterly airstream following the front will moderate slowly on Friday and a high pressure ridge will extend from Bight waters to northwest Victoria late on Friday and Saturday. A deep low over the southern Tasman Sea will prevent this ridge moving further east until late in the weekend. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayWidespread rain areas on and south of the ranges with locally heavy falls. Showers in the north. Isolated thunderstorms, scattered in the northeast. Cool to mild with moderate to fresh winds circulating around a low over western Victoria.Wednesday 23 OctoberRain areas and isolated thunderstorms contracting to the east during the morning then clearing. Scattered showers to follow in the south, more isolated in the north and becoming fine over the far northwest. Cool and mostly cloudy with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds extending throughout, strong at times near the coast.Thursday 24 OctoberScattered showers over southern and mountain districts more widespread near the coast during the morning with the chance of thunderstorms. Possible hail, mainly in the south. Showers falling as snow down to 800 metres. A generally cold and partly cloudy day with to moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, strong at times near the coast.Friday 25 OctoberEarly morning frost patches in the north. Isolated showers in the south, scattered near the coast. Dry in the north. A cool to mild and partly cloudy day with light to moderate west to southwest winds, fresh along the coast.Saturday 26 OctoberIsolated showers in the south but dry over the north.
