MELBOURNE - Oct 17/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high (1029 hPa) near New Zealand extends a ridge along Queensland's east coast. A surface trough will stretch from the state's northwest to the southeast interior today, whilst a milder southerly change moves up the southeast coast during the day. Forecast for the rest of FridayIsolated showers and thunderstorms in a band from the Gulf Country down through the central interior, mainly during the afternoon and evening. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the southeast quarter of the state and the southern interior, though with showers and storms easing during the day about the far southeast after a milder southerly wind change. Fine and mostly sunny across the rest of the state. Mainly moderate southeast to northeast winds over the eastern tropics. Moderate to fresh southwest to southeast winds across remaining areas of the state, with a fresh to strong southerly change moving over the far southeast during the day.Fire Danger - Severe in the Channel Country. High to Very High elsewhere.Saturday 19 OctoberA firm ridge along Queensland's east coast should push some mainly isolated showers onto the east coast and islands, and some areas of morning cloud and drizzle over the Central Highlands and Coalfields. Mainly fresh southeasterly winds along most of the east coast, strong at times over far northern waters. Isolated showers and thunderstorms possible about the Gulf Country coast. Fine and sunny elsewhere. Maximum temperatures well above average in the west and southern interior.Sunday 20 OctoberA ridge should keep pushing some mainly isolated showers across the east coast.
