Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 16/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A strong cold front is crossing eastern Victoria and will move out over the Tasman Sea on Thursday afternoon while an associated deep low pressure system passes south of Tasmania. The next high pressure system will rapidly cross the head of the Bight on Thursday afternoon then move across southern New South Wales on Friday morning to reach the Tasman Sea on Friday afternoon. A warmer northwest to northerly airstream will develop over Victoria on Saturday but a low pressure trough will form over the Bight. This trough will then move eastwards to reach western Victoria on Sunday morning and the east of the State by Sunday night.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayScattered showers over southern and mountain districts, more widespread about the coast and ranges until early afternoon then becoming isolated late in the day. Local hail and thunderstorms clearing from the west towards evening. Isolated showers reaching the northern plains until the afternoon, then clearing. Snow showers above 1000 metres. A cool to cold and partly cloudy day with fresh to strong and squally west to southwesterly wind, easing late in the day.Friday 18 OctoberMorning frost patches, mainly in the north, otherwise a dry and mostly sunny day. Cool to mild with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds developing.Saturday 19 OctoberFine. A mild to warm and mostly sunny with moderate to locally fresh northerly winds. Lighter winds over the east with afternoon seabreezes developing along the Gippsland coast.Sunday 20 OctoberScattered showers in the west extending to central areas later. A mild to warm day with a moderate to fresh northwesterly wind gradually turning cooler south to southwesterly from the west.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Thursday.Product IDV10310
