MELBOURNE - Oct 10/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure trough lies over southern New South Wales and will move further northwards overnight as high pressure system moves into the Bight. The high will move rapidly eastwards across southern New South Wales on Friday . The next cold front will reach far southwest Victoria Saturday night then will cross the remainder of the State on Sunday, followed by another cold front moving through Bass Strait on Monday. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayRain areas contracting to northern and eastern districts during the evening. Isolated showers to follow, mainly over southern and mountain districts and falling as snow about the Alpine peaks overnight. Moderate southwest to southerly winds extending throughout.Friday 11 OctoberRain areas in the northeast clearing during the early morning. Isolated showers over southern and mountain areas, contracting to the coast during the morning then clearing. A cool and partly cloudy day with moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds, easing later from the west.Saturday 12 OctoberA fine, mild to warm and sunny day. Cloud increasing over the southwest later with isolated showers possible at night. Fresh north to northwesterly winds shifting cooler west to southwesterly in the west later in the day.Sunday 13 OctoberScattered showers in the southwest extending to remaining southern and mountain areas. Possible shower or thunderstorm in the north during the morning, with thunderstorms contracting to eastern districts and clearing in the afternoon. Snow showers developing above 1000 metres. Cool to mild and partly cloudy with fresh to strong and gusty southwesterly winds extending throughout.Monday 14 OctoberIsolated showers over southern and mountain districts, tending scattered near the coast. Showers falling as snow above 1200m.
