MELBOURNE - Oct 9/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system will be over the northern Tasman Sea during Wednesday and Thursday. A low pressure trough will reach western Victoria late on Wednesday. A cold front will follow early on Thursday, combining with the trough to cross Victoria during the day. Another high pressure system will move rapidly eastwards from the head of the Bight early Friday to cross New South Wales later on Friday. A second cold front will reach southwest Victoria on Saturday afternoon and then cross the remainder of the State on Sunday. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayFine. Fresh to strong and gusty north to northwesterly winds, reaching gale force over elevated areas. Wind shifting cooler southwesterly over the southwest during the evening.Thursday 10 OctoberScattered showers developing from the west during the morning, mainly on and south of the dividing range and becoming widespread rain over the east later in the afternoon and evening. Isolated showers developing over the northern plains. Isolated snow showers developing above 1500 metres at night. Fresh to strong north to northwesterly winds, gale force at first over the eastern ranges, shifting cooler southwesterly from the west during the day.Friday 11 OctoberIsolated showers over southern and mountain areas, contracting to the coast and mostly clearing during the day. A cool and partly cloudy day with moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds, easing later from the west.Saturday 12 OctoberIsolated showers developing over the southwest during the afternoon, extending to south parts of the Central district at night. Mild to warm with fresh north to northwesterly winds shifting cooler west to southwesterly in the west later in the day.Sunday 13 OctoberScattered showers in the southwest extending to remaining southern and mountain areas. The chance of thunderstorms in the south with hail. Snow showers developing above 800 metres. Possible shower or thunderstorm during the morning in the northwest.
