MELBOURNE - Oct 6/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A weak high over the northwest Coral Sea maintains a weak ridge on to the northeast tropical coast. A surface trough is expected to move eastwards across southern Queensland today, and an associated southerly wind change will move northwards along the southeast coast this afternoon. A new high will move across New South Wales on Tuesday and into the Coral Sea on Wednesday. The high will extend a firm ridge over southern Queensland on Tuesday and along the east coast on Wednesday. A new trough will enter the far southwest of the state on Thursday. Forecast for the rest of MondayFine, sunny and very warm to hot across most of the state with only isolated showers about the Gulf Country and Torres Strait. Light to moderate east to southeast winds across the northern half of the state. Moderate to fresh and gusty southeast to southwest winds over the southern interior. Fresh and gusty westerly winds developing across the southeast quarter of the state, ahead of a milder, moderate to fresh southerly change moving up the southeast coast late in the day.Fire Danger - Extreme over most southern districts and severe over the central interior. Very high elsewhere.Tuesday 8 OctoberA high over New South Wales will push moderate to fresh southeast winds and mainly isolated showers across Queensland's southeast, mainly about the coast. The high should keep the rest of the state fine and mostly sunny. Maximum temperatures will be well above average through central districts.Wednesday 9 OctoberA ridge along the east Queensland coast should push some isolated showers over parts of the east coast, contracting northwards during the day. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere.Thursday 10 OctoberA ridge should persist along the east Queensland coast with only isolated showers across the coast over the northern tropics. The rest of the state should be fine and mostly sunny. Hot northerly winds ahead of the trough are expected to push maximum temperatures well above the October average over the western and southern interior leading to increased fire dangers.Friday until SundayThe state should remain mostly fine and sunny except for the chance of a few isolated showers about the coast.
