Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 4/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A low [1003 hPa] lies over the northern Tasman Sea and is expected to move slowly east today. A broad ridge of high pressure will extend through much of Queensland during the weekend. A surface trough is expected to move east across southeastern and central Queensland on Monday, contracting off the southern Queensland coast late in the day. A high will move into southeastern Australia on Tuesday, extending a firm ridge into southern and western Queensland in the wake of the trough.
Forecast for the rest of SaturdayIsolated showers about the east tropical coast south of about Cooktown, more frequent about the Cassowary Coast. Isolated showers over remaining northern districts, mostly during the afternoon. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. A cool morning through the southern and central interior with possible early light frost on the Granite Belt. Light to moderate southeast to northeast winds across most of the state, tending west to northwest over the southern interior during the day.Fire Danger -  Very High in central and northwest districts and the Darling Downs.Sunday 6 OctoberA weak high pressure centre will persist near the east Queensland coast, with a ridge dominating Queensland's weather. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected over much of the state, with only isolated showers about the far northeastern tropics and near the southern Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Winds will tend warm northerly through southern districts ahead of a trough moving east over central Australia.Monday 7 OctoberThe high is expected to remain slow moving near the northeast Queensland coast, maintaining mostly fine conditions over northern Queensland with only isolated showers through Torres Strait and near the southern Gulf of Carpentaria coast. A trough will move east over southern and central districts during Monday, contracting off the southern Queensland coast late in the day. No rainfall is expected with the passage of the trough though it will generate hot, dry and gusty westerly winds, leading to enhanced fire dangers, particularly through inland parts.Tuesday 8 OctoberThe trough and an associated south to southeasterly wind change is expected to progress northwards into Capricornia waters. The trough will generate isolated showers over the southeast of the state, particularly near the coast. A large high will move into southeastern Australia, extending a firm ridge through the interior of Queensland in the wake of the trough with fine and sunny conditions expected. Mostly fine conditions will persist through northern Queensland with only isolated light showers through Torres Strait. Maximum temperatures will be well above average through central districts and the southern tropics. Cooler conditions are expected through southern Queensland due to the fresh southwest to southeasterly wind flow.Wednesday until FridayThe high over southeastern Australia will most likely move northeast to lie off the southeast Queensland coast by Thursday, extending a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast. Isolated showers will contract north along the east Queensland east coast during the outlook period. A new trough is expected to enter western Queensland on Thursday and move east, most likely contracting off the southern Queensland coast late Friday. Hot conditions will again develop through western and southern Queensland in the northwesterly wind flow ahead of the trough. Little or no rainfall is expected with it's passage, though it will generate gusty westerly winds and elevated fire dangers.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Saturday.Product IDQ10700
