Weather Situation A high [1022 hPa] near New Zealand extends a weak ridge along the tropical east Queensland coast. A trough extends from the northwest of Queensland to the southeastern interior. This trough is expected to contract off the far southern Queensland coast during this afternoon, with an associated strong south to southeasterly wind change extending north through southern waters which is expected to reach central Queensland Friday morning. A new high will move into southeastern Australia from Friday, with a ridge of high pressure then dominating Queensland's weather. Isolated showers and thunderstorms otherwise east of a surface trough that will extend from about Normanton to the Sunshine Coast, increasing to scattered over inland parts during the afternoon. Some storms will likely be severe, particularly over central districts and the Wide Bay and Burnett. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Cool, dry, fresh and gusty southwest to southeast winds are expected to spread across western districts and into the southeastern interior. Moderate to fresh northwest to northeast winds over the central and southern coast ahead of a strong and gusty south to southeasterly change entering far southern waters late in the day. The trough will generate isolated to scattered showers with its passage, with possible isolated thunderstorms over central districts during the morning. Isolated showers will develop through the tropics south of about Weipa to Cooktown, with possible thunderstorms, mostly inland. Conditions should be fine and mostly sunny elsewhere with milder temperatures as the high moves across southeast Australia and extends a firm ridge along the coast in the wake of the coastal change. A cool day is expected through southern districts.Saturday 5 OctoberThe high is expected to weaken with a centre developing near the eastern Queensland coast. The high will continue to extend a ridge over eastern Queensland. Isolated showers will occur about the tropical coast in the firm onshore wind flow, tending scattered about the north tropical coast and ranges. Isolated showers are also likely about the Gulf Country, particularly near the coast. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected elsewhere.Sunday 6 OctoberA weak high pressure centre will persist near the east Queensland coast, with a ridge dominating Queensland's weather. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected over much of the state, with only isolated showers about the far northeastern tropics and near the southern Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Winds will tend warm northerly through southern districts ahead of a trough moving east over central Australia.Monday until WednesdayThe high is expected to remain slow moving near the northeast Queensland coast, maintaining mostly fine conditions over northern Queensland. A trough will most likely move east over southern and central districts during Monday and Tuesday, though little or no rainfall is expected with its passage. Warm to hot conditions will occur in the northwesterly wind flow ahead of the trough. A cooler southerly change is expected to move north along the southern Queensland coast following the trough passage during Tuesday. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Thursday.Product IDQ10700 Notice Board Queensland's improving weather services Northwest Queensland weather radar installation complete Media Releases Marketing Meteorological Offices Cairns weather Charleville weather Longreach weather Mackay weather Mount Isa weather Rockhampton weather Townsville weather Weipa weather Other Information About Weather Forecast Services About Warning Services Warnings Water Climate Environment Tropical Cyclones Tsunami Warning Centre Agriculture - Water and the Land Marine & Ocean UV & Sun Protection Rainfall & River Conditions Graphical Views Radar Maps Rainfall Forecasts Seasonal Outlooks Climate Variability & Change Climate Data Online Seasonal Streamflow Forecasts Water Storage MetEye™ National Weather Services Aviation Weather Services Defence Services Space Weather Services Registered User Services Commercial Weather Services Business Entry Point Facebook Google+ Youtube Blog Careers Sitemap Feedback Freedom of Information Indigenous Weather Knowledge Glossary This page was created at 01:15 on Thursday 3 October 2013 (GMT) © Copyright Commonwealth of Australia 2013, Bureau of Meteorology (ABN 92 637 533 532) | Disclaimer | Privacy | Accessibility var hostname = window.location.hostname; var host = hostname.split("."); if (host[0] == "reg") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-20386085-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); else if (host[0] == "www") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-3816559-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); else if (host[0] == "wdev") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-21709175-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); (function() { var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true; ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ?
