MELBOURNE - Oct 1/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A strong cold front will move rapidly eastwards across Victoria today. A high pressure system will move over the Bight tonight, then reach western Victoria on Thursday before moving across the State on Friday. A weak trough will clip southwestern Victoria on Saturday. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayScattered showers developing from the southwest, mainly over southern and mountain regions. Isolated thunderstorms and small hail possible over southern and mountain areas in the afternoon and evening. Showers falling as snow above 1000 metres later. Cool to mild with fresh to strong and gusty northwesterly winds, reaching gale force at times along the the coastal fringe and about the ranges. Winds shifting shifting west to southwesterly from the west during the afternoon and evening and easing.Thursday 3 OctoberIsolated showers over southern and mountain areas, scattered near the coast and about the alpine area. Isolated thunderstorms and local hail contracting to the east and clearing. Snow showers above 1000 metres, rising to 1500 metres. Showers clearing from the west during the afternoon. Generally cool with moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds easing from the west.Friday 4 OctoberLocal early fog and frost inland then a sunny day. Light north to northwesterly winds with afternoon seabreezes along the Gippsland coast.Saturday 5 OctoberMostly dry. Just the chance of isolated showers developing over southern and mountain districts in the afternoon.
