MELBOURNE - Oct 1/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation The last in the series of strong cold fronts will approach Victoria from the southern ocean overnight. The front will move rapidly across the State during Wednesday as a high pressure system moves over the Bight. The high will reach western Victoria on Thursday and will move across the State on Friday, reaching the Tasman sea on Saturday. A weak trough will clip southwestern Victoria on Saturday. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayIsolated showers over southern and mountain districts, scattered in the east at first then clearing during the early evening. Snow showers above 1300 metres clearing. Fresh westerly winds, strong at times neat the coast.Wednesday 2 OctoberScattered showers developing from the west over southern and mountain regions, tending more isolated over the northern plains. Isolated thunderstorms possible over southern and mountain areas in the afternoon and evening with possible hail near the coast. Showers falling as snow above 1100 metres later. Cool to mild with fresh to strong and gusty northwesterly winds, reaching gale force at times along the the coastal fringe. Winds shifting shifting west to southwesterly from the west during the afternoon and evening and easing.Thursday 3 OctoberIsolated showers over southern and mountain areas, scattered near the coast and about the alpine area. Isolated thunderstorms and local hail contracting to the east and clearing. Snow showers above 1000 metres, rising to 1500m. Showers clearing from the west during the afternoon. Generally cool with moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds easing from the west.Friday 4 OctoberLocal early fog and frost inland then a sunny day. Light north to northwesterly winds with afternoon seabreezes along the Gippsland coast.Saturday 5 OctoberMostly dry. Just the chance of isolated showers developing over southern and mountain districts in the afternoon.
