U.S. Rye Crop Rises 10%

WASHINGTON - Sep 30/13 - SNS -- This year's rye crop in the United States is estimated at 7.67 million bushels, up 10% from 2012, according to the latest USDA small grains production estimates.

Harvested area totaled 278,000 acres, up 30,000 acres from 2012. The United States yield, at 27.6 bushels per acre, is down 0.4 bushel from the previous year. Favorable growing conditions in the Southern Great Plains and the Southeast led to increases in harvested acres from a year earlier.
