Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 29/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Fire Weather Warning is current for the Channel Country and
parts of the Central West and Northwest districts.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A surface trough stretches from the northwest of the state to the southeast
interior. A high over the Tasman Sea extends a weak ridge along Queensland's
east coast.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms in broad band from the
northwest of the state down to the southeast. Fine over the remainder of the
state except for the chance of some isolated showers about the North Tropical
Coast and the east coast of Cape York Peninsula. Maximum temperatures will
continue to be above the September average across most of the state. Mainly
moderate SE to NE winds across the eastern and northern districts, fresh at
times about the Peninsula district. Moderate to fresh NE to NW winds over the
state's southwest, along with a Severe Fire Danger over the Channel Country and
parts of the Central West and Northwest districts. A high to very high fire
danger elsewhere.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high in the Tasman Sea should move towards New Zealand. A strong upper
level trough and cold front will enter southwestern Queensland during the day
and progress rapidly eastwards across the south of the state, generating rain
areas and scattered thunderstorms, and this activity may reach the southeast
coast district late in the evening. Hot and gusty NW'ly winds ahead of a sharp
SW'ly wind change with the front will result in elevated fire dangers,
particularly over southern districts. Isolated showers will continue along the
northeast tropical coast in a moist onshore flow. Maximum temperatures will
continue to be above average across most of the state, although cooler
conditions will spread across the southwest in the wake of the front.
Forecast for Wednesday
The upper level trough should continue to move northeastwards, generating
patchy rain areas over the southeast quarter of the state, before clearing
offshore in the morning. Isolated showers and thunderstorms should then
redevelop from the in a band from the northwest of the state through the central
highlands to the southeast during the day. Isolated showers should also continue
along the east tropical coast in a moist onshore flow.
Forecast for Thursday
Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms over eastern districts near a
surface trough. A large high over the Great Australian Bight will extend a firm
ridge into western Queensland, leaving the remainder of the state fine and
mostly sunny.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The trough over eastern Queensland will move northwards along the east coast
as a southerly change, as the large high moves slowly eastwards across southern
Australia. The high should push showers and fresh winds onto the east coast and
nearby inland during the weekend. It should be fine and mainly sunny over the
interior with temperatures returning to near or just above average.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Monday.
