MELBOURNE - Sep 29/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system east of New South Wales will move slowly across the Tasman Sea over the next few days. A vigorous north to northwesterly flow is developing ahead of an intensifying cold front that will reach western Victoria later today. The front will then move across central districts early Tuesday morning, clearing eastern districts early Tuesday afternoon. Another strong cold front will cross the State on Wednesday as a high pressure system moves over the Bight. The high will reach western Victoria on Thursday. Forecast for the rest of MondayCloud increasing from the west with isolated showers developing in the west during the morning, extending to central districts in the afternoon. Showers tending to areas of rain through western and central districts later in the day. Isolated thunderstorms developing from the west, mainly in the afternoon. Areas of raised dust in the northwest. A generally warm day with fresh to strong and gusty north to northwesterly winds reaching gale force at times, mainly about elevated areas.Tuesday 1 OctoberAreas of rain, particularly over central and eastern districts, tending to showers from the west and then mostly clearing in the west during the afternoon. The chance of thunderstorms contracting to the east in the morning and clearing in the early afternoon. Snow showers developing above 1300 metres. Mild with north to northwesterly winds, strong to gale force in the east ahead of a colder, fresh west to southwesterly change crossing the State by early afternoon.Wednesday 2 OctoberScattered showers developing from the west over southern and mountain regions, tending more isolated over the northern plains. Showers falling as snow above 1100 metres later. Cool to mild with moderate to fresh north to northwesterly winds strengthening about elevated areas and the coastal fringe and shifting west to southwesterly from the west.Thursday 3 OctoberIsolated showers over southern and mountain areas, scattered near the coast and about the alpine area. Snow showers above 1000 metres. Showers clearing from the west during the afternoon.
