Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 24/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A weak cold front crossing the Bight will pass over Tasmania this morning with the tail end of the front crossing Bass Strait by early this afternoon. A stronger cold front will cross the Bight today before quickly moving across Victoria Thursday morning. The next high pressure system will move across southern NSW on Friday as another cold front crosses the Bight to reach western districts late Friday. This front will then move across the remainder of the State by early Saturday afternoon.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayIsolated showers possible near and south of the ranges, mainly about the central and western coasts. Areas of rain developing over the northwest in the afternoon, extending to central districts and the northeast later in the day. A mild to warm day with moderate to fresh west to northwest winds, strengthening over Alpine areas.Thursday 26 SeptemberAreas of rain contracting to the east and clearing during the morning with scattered showers to follow. Isolated thunderstorms and small hail possible near the central and western coasts in the morning and early afternoon. Showers falling as snow down to 1000 metres. Showers clearing over the northwest in the afternoon and mostly clearing elsewhere by the evening. A cooler day with fresh to strong westerly winds reaching gale force along the coastal fringe and about Alpine areas.Friday 27 SeptemberMorning frost patches over the north and isolated early morning showers possible over South Gippsland. A mostly dry and sunny day ahead of isolated showers developing over western districts in the afternoon, possibly extending to central and eastern districts at night. Light winds tending moderate to locally fresh northerly over western and central districts in the afternoon. Afternoon seabreezes developing near the Gippsland coast and winds shifting moderate to fresh westerly in the west at night.Saturday 28 SeptemberScattered showers near and south of the ranges tending more extensive about the northeast ranges and West Gippsland. Isolated thunderstorms and small hail possible near the central and western coasts. Showers falling as snow down to 1200 metres. Only isolated showers over the northwest, clearing in the afternoon. Showers tending more isolated elsewhere during the late afternoon and evening. A cool day with fresh west to northwest winds tending west to southwesterly in the afternoon. Locally strong winds about Alpine regions and along the coastal fringe.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Wednesday.Product IDV10310
