Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 20/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Fire Weather Warning has been issued for Gulf Country and
Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A weak high pressure system over southeast Australia is pushing dry air
across Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Fine, dry and sunny across much of the state with except for just the chance
of some isolated afternoon showers about the Central Coast. Above average maxima
across the northern and central districts. A Very High to Severe Fire Danger
over the Gulf Country and Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders. A High to
Very High Fire Danger over much of the remainder of the state.
Forecast for Sunday
The high pressure system should drift eastwards into the Tasman Sea, and is
likely to push more low level moisture over southeast Queensland. This
moisture, in combination with an upper trough, is expected to produce an area of
isolated showers and thunderstorms across eastern districts south of about
Townsville. Some patchy areas of frost possible over the Granite Belt. Fine and
mostly sunny with above average maximum temperatures across the state.
Forecast for Monday
The high should remain over the Tasman Sea, while the upper trough should
move off the east coast, allowing instability to ease over Queensland. So fine
and sunny across the state. A vigorous surface trough should enter the Channel
Country area, and it should be hot, dry and gusty ahead of it with elevated Fire
Dangers across the interior.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high should move into the southern Coral Sea and extend a ridge along the
east coast. Fine and sunny across the entire state. Hot and gusty northwesterly
winds in the interior of the state will lead to maximum temperatures well above
the September average. Elevated fire dangers over the interior.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
The high should slowly drift northeastwards into the Coral Sea during the
outlook period, directing moist onshore flow and isolated showers onto the east
coast of Cape York Peninsula by mid-week. The high should also maintain a flow
of hot, northerly winds across Queensland's interior, with temperatures well
above the September average across a lot of the state. A series of troughs may
produce some showers across the state's southern districts late in the working
week.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Saturday.
