MELBOURNE - Sep 20/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Fire Weather Warning has been issued for Gulf Country and Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A weak high pressure system over southeast Australia is pushing dry air across Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Fine, dry and sunny across much of the state with except for just the chance of some isolated afternoon showers about the Central Coast. Above average maxima across the northern and central districts. A Very High to Severe Fire Danger over the Gulf Country and Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders. A High to Very High Fire Danger over much of the remainder of the state. Forecast for Sunday The high pressure system should drift eastwards into the Tasman Sea, and is likely to push more low level moisture over southeast Queensland. This moisture, in combination with an upper trough, is expected to produce an area of isolated showers and thunderstorms across eastern districts south of about Townsville. Some patchy areas of frost possible over the Granite Belt. Fine and mostly sunny with above average maximum temperatures across the state. Forecast for Monday The high should remain over the Tasman Sea, while the upper trough should move off the east coast, allowing instability to ease over Queensland. So fine and sunny across the state. A vigorous surface trough should enter the Channel Country area, and it should be hot, dry and gusty ahead of it with elevated Fire Dangers across the interior. Forecast for Tuesday The high should move into the southern Coral Sea and extend a ridge along the east coast. Fine and sunny across the entire state. Hot and gusty northwesterly winds in the interior of the state will lead to maximum temperatures well above the September average. Elevated fire dangers over the interior. Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday The high should slowly drift northeastwards into the Coral Sea during the outlook period, directing moist onshore flow and isolated showers onto the east coast of Cape York Peninsula by mid-week. The high should also maintain a flow of hot, northerly winds across Queensland's interior, with temperatures well above the September average across a lot of the state. A series of troughs may produce some showers across the state's southern districts late in the working week. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Saturday.
