Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 19/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A low pressure system east of Tasmania will move slowly through the south Tasman Sea during Friday and Saturday. A cold front will cross southern Victoria during tonight and Friday morning. A ridge of high pressure will develop over northern Victoria later on Friday and early Saturday with the main high pressure centre lying well to the north. A low pressure trough is expected to approach western Victoria late on Saturday, weakening as it moves east on Sunday, when a high pressure system should form in the Tasman Sea. The next cold front should enter southwestern Victoria late on Monday.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayIsolated showers in the east clearing. Showers increasing over the west in the evening with isolated thunderstorms, extending to central districts and the northeast ranges at night. Remaining dry over the northwest. Light to moderate northwesterly winds.Friday 20 SeptemberScattered showers over southern and mountain districts, contracting eastwards during the day. Isolated morning thunderstorms about the northeast. Snow over Alpine areas down to 1500 metres in the morning. Cool to mild and cloudy with moderate to fresh westerly winds easing at night.Saturday 21 SeptemberEarly fog patches in the northwest. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms about the southwest, spreading eastwards during the day and reaching central districts at night. A mild to warm day with light to moderate northwest to northerly wind.Sunday 22 SeptemberScattered showers in the east, becoming isolated during the afternoon and clearing at night. A mild to warm day with light and variable winds.Monday 23 SeptemberMild to warm and mainly sunny day with moderate to fresh northerly winds. Isolated showers in the southwest late in the day or at night.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EST Friday.Product IDV10310
