MELBOURNE - Sep 19/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system just east of Tasmania will be slow moving until it moves east across the Tasman Sea during Friday. A cold front crossing the Bight is likely to weaken as it crosses southern Victoria on Thursday night and Friday morning. A ridge of high pressure will develop over northern Victoria later on Friday and early Saturday with the main high pressure centre lying well to the north. A low pressure trough is expected to approach western Victoria late on Saturday, weakening as it moves east on Sunday, when a high pressure system should form in the Tasman Sea. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayScattered showers over the south tending isolated over the southwest. Showers falling as snow above 1200 metres. Showers increasing over the west in the evening and extending to central districts and the northeast ranges at night. Isolated thunderstorms possible over the southwest this evening. Remaining dry over the northwest. A cool and partly cloudy day with moderate to fresh westerly winds, strong near the coast. Winds tending moderate northwesterly over the west in the afternoon and evening.Friday 20 SeptemberIsolated showers over southern and mountain districts, scattered about the west coast and the eastern ranges and contracting eastwards during the day. Snow over Alpine areas down to 1500 metres in the morning. Cool to mild and cloudy with moderate to fresh westerly winds easing at night.Saturday 21 SeptemberScattered showers about the southwest, spreading eastwards during the day. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms over the southwest. A mild to warm day with light to moderate northwest to northerly wind.Sunday 22 SeptemberScattered showers in the east, becoming isolated during the afternoon and clearing at night.
