Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 18/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Fire Weather Warning is current for the Central Highlands
and Coalfields, parts of the Capricornia, North West,
Central West, Channel Country, Maranoa and Warrego, and Wide Bay and Burnett
districts.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A weak ridge lies along the north tropical coast. A trough is moving
eastwards across the state's southern interior.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Fine, dry and sunny across most of the state except for the chance of some
isolated showers over the northern tropics. Light to moderate NE to NW winds
across most of the state, fresh and gusty across the state's southwest.
Moderate to fresh SW winds over the Channel Country.
Forecast for Thursday
Fine, dry and sunny across most of the state. The surface trough should move
into the eastern interior, and there's just the chance of some isolated showers
and gusty thunderstorms about the Wide Bay and Capricornia regions. There's also
the chance of isolated light showers about the western Peninsula. Maxima well
above average over the easter and northern districts. Mainly moderate NE to NW
winds across the northern districts. Moderate to fresh NE to NW winds ahead of
the surface trough, and W to SW'ly behind the trough. A very high to severe
fire danger about the southeast districts, southern interior and Central
Highlands and Coalfields. A high to very high fire danger elsewhere.
Forecast for Friday
Fine, dry and sunny across most of the state except for just the chance of
some isolated showers or thunderstorms near the Fraser Coast. Above average
maxima through the northern and central districts.
Forecast for Saturday
Fine, dry and sunny across the state except for some isolated showers about
the eastern tropics and central coast. Above average maxima through much of the
state.
Forecast for Sunday
A high pressure system should drift eastwards across the Tasman Sea, and is
likely to push more low level moisture over southeast Queensland. This
moisture, in combination with an upper trough is expected to produce an area of
scattered showers and storms across the eastern districts south of about Bowen.
Isolated showers are also possible about the northeast coast. Fine and mostly
sunny across the remainder of the state.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
The likelihood of showers and thunderstorms should decrease as the upper
trough moves off the southeast coast, though there may still be enough lingering
instability to see the development of at least isolated showers and
thunderstorms early in the new working week about the central coast and
southeast coastal districts. A new trough should then enter western Queensland
around Tuesday, generating gusty NW'ly winds though little to no rainfall is
expected. Maxima should remain well above the September average across much of
the state, particularly over the interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Thursday.
