MELBOURNE - Sep 18/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system will move slowly off the east coast of Tasmania during tonight and Thursday. A cold front crossing central Victoria will be weakening as it extends further eastwards over the State this evening. Another weakening cold front is expected to cross southern Victoria on Thursday night then a high pressure ridge will develop over northern Victoria later on Friday and early Saturday with the main high pressure centre lying well to the north. A low pressure trough is expected to approach western Victoria late on Saturday, weakening as it moves east on Sunday, when a high pressure system should form in the Tasman Sea. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayScattered showers, isolated in the far northwest. The chance of thunderstorms over eastern districts except east Gippsland. Snowfalls developing in Alpine areas later. Moderate northwest to westerly winds extending throughout.Thursday 19 SeptemberIsolated showers over southern and mountain areas increasing over the southwest during the evening. Dry over the northwest. Snow on the Alpine areas down to 1200 metres in the morning. A cool and partly cloudy day with moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds, gradually easing.Friday 20 SeptemberIsolated showers over southern and mountain districts, scattered about the west coast and the eastern ranges and contracting eastwards during the day. Snow over the Alpine areas down to 1500 metres in the morning. Cool to mild and cloudy with light to moderate northwest to westerly wind.Saturday 21 SeptemberScattered showers about the southwest, spreading eastwards during the day. A mild to warm day with light to moderate northwest to northerly wind.Sunday 22 SeptemberScattered showers in the east, contracting further eastwards during the day and clearing later.
